TSU’s renown debate team performs at presidential pre-inaugural event

Texas Southern University’s internationally noted debate team gave a rousing performance during a presidential pre-inaugural virtual event Tuesday designed to promote unity and celebrate the resiliency, culture and heroism of the Black community.
The performance titled “Democracy Prevails” was pre-recorded and streamed live on bideninaugural.org/watch/ .
The two-minute and six second reader’s theatre style performance featured TSU debaters Gloria Ekezie, Nahab Fahnbulleh, Trevor Mouton and Maya Williams.
TSU’s debate coach said it was an honor to participate in the event.
“It was so heartwarming to be able to participate in a pre-inaugural event for our first African American vice president and just an exciting time overall to know that we represented our beloved Texas Southern University,” head coach Dr. Gloria Batiste said.
The event titled “We Are One” featured other HBCUs and several top Black leaders as they paid homage to President Biden and the nation’s first African American Vice President Kamala Harris.
