Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have been elected President and Vice President of the U.S., media organizations reported on Saturday.
CNN’s Wolfe Blizter called Biden’s win a “historic moment” in this election. He said they made the call because Biden had enough votes to win the state of Pennsylvania.
Winning Pennsylvania brought Biden’s Electoral College votes to 273; 270 votes are required to win the presidential contest. There are a total of 538 electors in the Electoral College system.
The Associated Press said it called Pennsylvania for Biden because he held a 34, 243 vote lead over President Trump and the remaining ballots would not allow Trump to catch up.
Biden posted on his Twitter account that he was honored to served as America’s Commander-in-Chief.
“America, I’m honored that you have chosen me to lead our great country. The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith that you have placed in me,” Biden tweeted.
Kamala Harris’ Twitter account had a video with her talking on the phone to Biden saying, “We did it.”
Biden would become the 46th president of the of the U.S. and would be sworn into office on January 20, 2021.
