Dr. Mary Evans Sias appointed as TSU’s interim President

Following a six hour meeting on Thursday, June 15, Texas Southern University’s Board of Regents appointed Dr. Mary Evans Sias to assume the role of acting president of the university following Dr. Lesia Crumpton-Young’s retirement announcement on Friday, May 26, according to a university news release.

Dr. Sias, who was a member of TSU’s Board of Regents, resigned from the board to serve during this interim period.

She will officially take over the role of interim president on June 30, according to a news release from the university.

Before being appointed to TSU’s board of regents, Dr. Sias spent more than three decades “serving respectively as president of Kentucky State University (2004 – 2014), senior vice president for student affairs and external relations at the University of Texas Dallas (1995 – 2004),” according to the TSU news release.

Dr. Sias also held academic positions at Grambling State University, and Southern Methodist University, according to the university news release.
